Homeland or Death, My Love.

Yesterday mothers cried

They flocked the morgues

Their children murdered

Do you know how that feels?

Trigger happy

dogs of the regime

Who are also sons of other mothers

Took away innocent lives

Because they were bold enough

To express love

Love for the homeland

On that day

Patriots left home

To struggle for change

Never to return

That’s the highest form of love

Love for the homeland

Just the other day

Compatriots were bundled

Like sacks in lorries

detained in filthy cells

Tortured]

Fractured

Hurt

Pained

Humiliated

For the crime of love.

Love for the homeland

Remember that afternoon

When they teargassed us

shot at us

Like wild game

But we picked up the fallen Comrades

Lost our fear

Marched on

Until we occupied the Parliament

And reclaimed our sovereignty

Because of unconditional love.

Love for the homeland

That was the day

We occupied Kenyatta Avenue

Renamed it

Rex Maasai Avenue

The first martyr

Of the uprising

Who died for love.

Love for the Homeland

On that fateful day

Underpaid doctors were overwhelmed

Understaffed hospitals full

Of injured protesters

Gunshot wounds

Broken bones

Because they dared to show love

Love for the homeland

The next morning

Freedom fighters lined up

Before the magistrate

To answer their charges

The offence of love.

Love for the homeland

Tomorrow

More shall pour

In the streets of the motherland

To complete the mission

Only one thing drives them,

Love for the homeland.

Homeland or death!

Tuesday 27th, August.
